The Powerblock of Button Energy |

A Micro-Cogeneration unit (abbreviated as BHKW) means an optimum of energy efficiency on the highest technological level.
The Powerblock supplies your home dependably with heat and power. Depending on the operating conditions, the acquisition costs of your Powerblock will pay off by its duration within a few years. Due to its wide modulation range, a Powerblock is the optimal choice for single- and multiple-family homes.

Homestead power supply
Ideally (condensing boiler), a 100% output energy of a combustible the heating generates approx. 105 % thermal energy, which can be used on-site. Power of grid electricity in centralized power plants presents only approx. 40 % of the output energy. Reasons for these are losses due to transportation and non-use of thermal power in the power plant (European average according to E-control approx. 456 g CO2/kWh), despite renewable energies such as water, wind and biomass.
This means: In order to gain a considerably better energy efficiency, power generation through combustibles must be as close as possible at the heat consumer (customer).
With a Powerblock, adjusted to the needs of single-and multiple family homes, it is possible to generate nearly 100 % of the heat requirement and up to 80 % of the power requirement in your home. The overall balance shows that at equal power consumption the carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere is 20% less.
Connection
The Powerblock is connected like a traditional heating. Using a buffer memory starting at 600 Liters, efficiency can be increased allowing improved live operation.
Power connection is carried-out by an electrician and registration is done with the energy supplier. Instead of the previous you receive installation of a second direction counter. The consumption meter counts as long, until the Powerblock generates more power as you are consuming. Only then, supplied energy is metered.
It makes sense to set the Powerblock for generation excess power.
Use of electricity
Electricity generated with the Powerblock is consumed at home leading to less consumption from the public network meaning that the electricity moves slower. The European feed-in legislation obliges the network provider to accept both. Self self generated electricity or possibly excess power. Nevertheless, compensation is only minor or even none. Therefore, the Powerblock is preferably used generating the own power consumption at home. For the electricity meter, it looks like as if the the consumption is considerably reduced. However, it might be that you receive a separate compensation for peak current. Today already more than € 1,-- is paid for peak current at the electricity exchange.

DIN 4702 shows clearly how important the modulation effect to small strength is avoiding both, clocking of the plant and therefore, losses. The Powerblock can run 240 days yearly (depending on the overall consumption) without stopping once. An essential factor for electricity-saving (which is proportional to heat) since most of the operating hours are driven by low power, which supplies the base loads (fridge and freezer, Standby devices, etc.). Since the electricity meter meters' power, that is kWh, low power by many time results in pretty much energy. That’s the whole point! The meter is on standstill or moving slowly.
It would be almost without any effect if the Powerblock is operated at full power. As an example, if the Powerblocks runs the whole night, a period where only a 0,3 kWel are needed and there is only a little heat requirement it would result in a consumption of 1,7 kW. Therefore, compensation would be small or none (depending on energy suppliers). The heat accumulator would be soon full loaded and the Powerblock switching off. However, until restart the electricity meter continues to run normally since the Powerblock could not work because of the full loaded storage-system.

Example for a daily consumption curve (power 0-24hrs.) for a typical single-family home:
The upper section shows the graph of the measuring curve. The lower section shows the set capacity of the Powerblock.
There are three elevations throughout the day, at which the energy consumption is higher than the base load. This behavior is very similar, daily repeating and that means the Powerblock might be preset by default to this behavior. (Grey areas below)
Regarding the heat output simply move the preset curve up or down. During days with low heat output or where domestic water heating is in use, the Powerblock operates with the lowest power, thus with base load.
In summer and when the store temperature is reached, the Powerblock will be turned off automatically..
In winter time more light and therefore more power is needed and that matches very well to the increased amount of electricity.
Achieving a continuous operation by modulation of the burner is attempted when using a traditional condensing boiler. However, one should bear in mind, that in this case, the plant consumes permanent electricity, which would have an adverse effect on the total electricity consumption. In this case clocking would be favorable, nevertheless, in turn worsening the efficiency for heat generation and leading to an increase of the fuel consumption. Powerblock has not this shortcoming because when the device generates electricity and heat, it produces its own power, thereby operating with only low heat loss!
Easy to service
An issue where other technologies failed. A dependable heating, a reliable car as well as a long-term cogeneration system requires an optimal service team. The satisfied customer’s prime objectives are safety and reliability. The legislation prescribes an inspection of your heating once a year to come along with lowest heating costs, highest safety, best environmental friendliness and at the highest possible reliability. Each cogeneration needs a good service and specially trained technicians to enable a flawless and the most effective service.
To have satisfied customers from the beginning Button Energy has focused specially on this subject.
We are monitoring your plant automatically and permanent by modem, and you don’t have to care about. Malfunctions are automatically transmitted to Button Energy and will b, if possible, eliminated instantly by remote maintenance..
The Powerblock works like a steam power plant. The system is almost a closed one, and the working fluid water is used in circulation. We do not use any kind of lubrication such as oil or grease. Water loss is low and will be checked at each service. Even if the system fails due to leakage, there would be, contrary to motor-driven BHKWs, no Sannoying oil odor or soiling.
At normal mode of operation the Powerblock is serviced once a year carried-out by maintenance personnel of Button Energy.
All critical parts subject to wear are replaced on the spot- Due to its simple mode of operation and doing it without rotating parts, replacement of parts is clear, simple and cost-effective.
Emergency heating operation
The Powerblock offers another decisive advantage compared to other previously used technologies: it works even in emergency heating operation. For example, when service intervals are exceeded, in case of significant network failures or unexpected failures in the linator®-range it is still capable of preparing heat. That would be impossible when dealing with motor-driven BHKW´s or Stirling engines without additional heating. Because if the motor stops no heat is generated.

At the Powerblock the steam cycle is maintained without generator operation thus producing heat.
